Detailed Session Descriptions
Junior Co-ed Division (Grade 3-5)
In our Junior division, there are no preassigned teams. Instead, players will be rotated weekly, allowing them to play with and against different participants each session. Our sessions consist of 50-60 minutes of skill development with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc), followed by 20-30 minutes of modified games like "Spike Ball." Spike Ball is a 2v2 game played on one-third of the court, allowing each court to accommodate 12 players across three simultaneous games. This setup maximizes ball touches for each player. The game is played over a low net, encouraging players to practice spiking. The final 15-20 minutes are dedicated to 6v6 "Triple Ball." In this format, one team serves, followed by a coach tossing a "free ball" to each side—an easy, controlled toss designed to initiate a rally. Each ball played is worth one point. In our Jr. division, we use "Volley Lite" balls, which are specifically designed for younger players. These lighter balls make it easier to control passes and serve over the net.
Intermediate Co-ed Division (Grade 6-8)
In our Intermediate division, we focus on preparing players for school and club team tryouts. Sessions include a short dynamic warm up followed by 30-40 minutes of skill development, with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc). This is followed by 40-50 minutes of modified gameplay, where each team competes in two matches. While mastering volleyball skills is essential, we also emphasize applying them in real-game situations. Our intermediate division features modified gameplay using “Triple Ball,” the format recommended by Volleyball Canada and commonly used in school and club competitions. In Triple Ball, a serve initiates play, followed by a coach tossing a controlled "free ball" to each side to encourage rallies. Each ball played is worth one point.
Senior Co-ed Division (Grade 9-12)
In our Senior division, players will participate in a short dynamic warm-up, followed by 30-40 minutes of skill development with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc). This is followed by 40-50 minutes of game play, during which each team competes in two matches. This division features "Double Ball," a modified version of volleyball where a "free ball" is tossed in after an ace or a missed serve. This ensures that every ball begins with a rally, creating more opportunities for active play. Each ball played is worth one point.
Boys Division (Grade 6-12)
In our Boys Only division, there are no preassigned teams. After a short dynamic warm up, players spend approximately 30-40 minutes working individual skill work, with a focus on one specific skill each week (eg. serving, passing, setting, etc). The remaining time is spent on gameplay. Players will choose which court they want to play on each week based on age and skill level. Coaches will also move athletes around and mix up the teams from week to week to enhance the experience for all. Games may be modified to keep the intensity and flow of the game going as needed.
